Podiatry & Chiropody

Podiatry, previously known as chiropody, is the diagnosis and treatment of foot and lower limb pathologies.

Some of the issues podiatrists deal with are painful irritations of the feet including corns and callus, verrucae and ingrowing toenails, as well as problems such as thickened/fungal toenails, arch pain and circulation difficulties in the lower extremities often caused by diabetes.

Surgical treatment of ingrowing toenails can also be carried out under local anaesthetic if required.

Various treatments for verrucae are available including chemical applications, cryotherapy (freezing treatment) and dry needling (which has proved particularly effective on longstanding recalcitrant verrucae).

Where necessary our Podiatrists can prescribe orthotics (which are specialist medical inserts) to improve  misalignments in the feet. This can improve posture and alleviate foot or postural pain.

Advice and treatment, including onward surgical referral can be given for conditions such as bunions and hammer toes.

Other simple insoles can be prescribed as can orthodigital devices.
